KAWARTHA LAKES, ON – The Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association (KTCTA) is advising trail users that Doube’s Trestle Bridge has sustained damage following two separate fires on September 23 and October 6, 2026.

The fires have been investigated and are believed to have been caused by discarded cigarettes that ignited fibres beneath the bridge decking. The KTCTA extends its sincere thanks to Kawartha Lakes Fire Services for their assistance and response to the fires.

As a result of the fires, the bridge has sustained damage. For public safety, trail users are advised to avoid using the bridge until permanent repairs have been completed. Users are asked to respect all posted signage and safety restrictions in place.

The Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association reminds all users to respect the trail, its natural surroundings and neighbouring private properties. Trail users are asked to take all garbage with them, leave no litter behind and remain on designated trails. Trespassing on private property adjacent to the trail is not permitted.

Doube’s Trestle Bridge is an important landmark along the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail, enjoyed by residents and visitors throughout the region. The Association appreciates the public’s cooperation in protecting this valuable community asset and ensuring the trail remains a safe and enjoyable destination.
